News: The Developing Dump Site in Mont Kiara

Oct 12, 2017

Fearing of another open burning activity, residents at Impian Villas at Mont Kiara complained that the nearby 1.2ha empty lot has been turned into an illegal dumping site again of construction waste and rubbish over the past few months.

40-year old resident Irwan revealed that while the hundreds of lorries dumping waste at the site has significantly dropped to only a few, it remains a concern for the residents.

“The area was barricaded by DBKL after their major operation to shut the area, however, at least three to four lorries are throwing rubbish here every day,” he said.

The rubbish, which proved to be an unsightly view from their high-rise units, has marred Mont Kiara’s image.

In November last year, the site has been cleared of all debris, after action was taken against those illegally dumping at the site.

Notably, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) along with other enforcement agencies raided the area and seized several lorries used to ferry waste while issuing summonses, said Irwan Sabei, secretary of Segambut Dalam Landowners Association.

With this, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng urged the authorities concerned to impose the harshest punishment possible.

“I already lodged a complaint with DBKL and Alam Flora, among other authorities, but they have not reverted to me,” he said.

“The dumpsite used to be a forest with a river flowing beside it, but now rubbish covers the land and river…As the landowner has done nothing after being issued a notice by the land office, they should seize the land as they have the right to do so.”
