News: Malaysia to Become Top 25 Economic Powerhouse in 33 Years

Sep 12, 2017

Major auditing firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) expects Malaysia to become the world’s 24th most prosperous economy by 2050.

Commenting on PWC’s forecast, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said a country’s economic performance depends on the growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) and a nation’s attractiveness to foreign investors.

“Malaysia’s GDP in the first quarter surpassed economists’ forecast at 5.6 percent and again in the second quarter at 5.8 percent. This was far higher than last year’s four percent.”

“These achievements have benefited the people immensely, paving the way for the government to build better infrastructure and services such as hospitals and clinics, as well as provide for the less fortunate, among others,” he wrote in his official blog.

Moreover, Najib emphasised that it is paramount to sustain and maintain Malaysia’s healthy economic growth.

“A country’s economic growth does not happen in a day or short-term. It takes a long time with thorough planning and strategic thinking. However, this could be gone in a split second,” he added.
