News: Residents' Voices Heard As Govt To Investigate Taman Rimba Kiara High-Rise Project

Jul 10, 2018

The Federal Territories Ministry intends to look into a controversial high-rise project that many people are opposed to as it will destroy a part of Taman Rimba Kiara park in Kuala Lumpur, reported The Malaysian Insight.

“We will have to check and see if there is anything fishy or dubious in the contract,” said newly appointed Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

“Then we will see what action can be taken,” he said on Wednesday (4 July) after a meeting with Members of Parliament (MPs) representing various areas in Kuala Lumpur.

In a report by The Star, Khalid said he is confident that they can intervene as the project is still in its early stages.

While the development contains a 30-storey affordable housing block with 350 units that will benefit longhouse residents, it also comprises six 42- to 52-storey buildings with a total of 1,766 luxury serviced apartments.

Overall, 2,116 homes will be built there, increasing the area’s population density from 74 persons per acre to 979 persons per acre.
