News: Construction Work At Controversial The Address Project Temporarily Suspended

Jul 10, 2018

After more than a year of fight to protect their community from overdevelopment, the residents of Taman Desa were informed that construction works at The Address will be temporarily suspended until after a judicial review on 28 August.

“We were informed by the DBKL Building Control Department, on Thursday night through a phone message and during a meet up on Friday morning, that the notice [stop-work order] has been prepared and signed, the notice will be delivered to the enforcement officer on Monday,” said M Gunasekar, a member of the Protect Taman Desa Coalition (PTDC).

While the ground for suspension is not specifically known yet, PDTC member K Y Chong lauded the decision taken by DBKL as a “positive step towards achieving full transparency, accountability and management accordance with the Rule of Law”, reported The Edge.

Nestled on a freehold site at Jalan Desa Bakti 2, Taman Desa, The Address is a few steps away from the entrance of Tiara Faber Condominium. It is also near Desa 1 Residences and Desa 8 condominium as well as Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Desa, Sekolah Menengah Desa Perdana and Sekolah Danau Perdana.

Developed by Maxim Group subsidiary, Kaisar Maxim Sdn Bhd, The Address will feature three towers of over 30 storeys on a 132-ft-wide land parcel that was originally earmarked as a Tenaga Nasional Bhd reserve.

In end-January, a crane at the construction site crashed into a services building at the compound of Tiara Faber Condo – stoking fears among residents on the development’s safety aspect.

Notably, The Address is only one of the plots with on-going development.

“The land in front of this area has been divided to four plots which have been sold for development purposes. Besides the three high-density development of The Address, the rest of the plots have tentative plans for another nine high-rise buildings — if all developments are realised, there will be a total of 12 buildings erected in between Tiara Faber and the schools opposite us,” explained Gunasekar.

With this, he called on Taman Desa residents to continue supporting the coalition in its bid to protect their community from overdevelopment.
