News: New JB MP To Halt Unjust Allocation Of Affordable Homes

Jul 12, 2018

Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir recently said that among the main problems he wants to address is the unscrupulous allocation of affordable homes and medium low-cost houses in the state, reported The Star.

“There are malpractices or misuse of power in the allocation of the flats and we want to stop this,” he said during the Hari Raya open house of Johor Bahru parliamentary office.

There were even cases when ineligible households obtained affordable dwellings, while those qualified were denied the chance to rent or buy a property. Worse, some even managed to get more than one house from the government, with units in People’s Public Housing Project leased out.

“Some even rent their units to foreigners, with the owners living elsewhere as they already own houses,” noted Akmal.

Another issue that needs immediate attention is the lack of parking space, particularly in downtown Johor Bahru.

“I am aware of indiscriminate parking by some motorists as there is insufficient parking space. I will address this matter with relevant stakeholders and find a solution,” he shared.

Regarding the cleanliness of Johor Bahru, Akmal said that while he is currently satisfied with it, the Johor Bahru City Council and residents needs to work harder to maintain the cleanliness as the city is the main gateway for tourists visiting Malaysia via the Causeway.
